America has often been described as the bread basket of the world because of it’s ability to grow grains from the richness of it’s soil and the variety of climates that endow the environment to produce foods and grains that help to supply the food supply to many nations. Yet, in our country, in recent years, we have seen many of our own people go hungry for lack of money due to job lay offs, downsizings, foreclosures, bank failures, and companies facing ruination from a nation that is undergoing huge financial instability. Feeding America is getting harder and harder everyday…people are forced to choose between feeding their families and meeting their financial obligations in other areas.
This leaves many people without the healthy foods that their families need to survive. It used to be that America was the country that everyone else came to help supplement their food supply…now we must create an awareness for those with plenty that there are many in our own nation who struggle to feed themselves or family members with three healthy well balanced meals a day.
Did you know that 1 out of 8 people are at risk for hunger in this country? This includes, children, working men and women, the elderly…hunger doesn’t know any boundaries. Chances are that you know someone who has struggled with feeding themselves or their families. Please, wont you go to www.welchs.com/harvest and click…it wont cost you anything but a moment of your time. Please, let others know to support both Feeding America and Welch’s. They are doing good things!
So, today it is my pleasure to tell you about a movement or a joining of two forces , Feeding America-which was formerly known as America’s Second Harvest and a company that has produced quality grape juice for generations of American families-Welch’s, to provide 100% grape juice from their harvest of concord grapes. They are teaming up to help donate food to food banks to help those who are struggling.
This program is free for you the reader…and is a wonderful way to do something that can make an impact on the hungry. If you read my previous post, you know that my son and I recently harvested our own fruit of the vine. We picked and canned 70lbs of grapes.
