Today we are being warned that the new report about how our nation’s security was lax when the Christmas bomber attempted to blow up a flight will cause shock to the man (woman) on the street.  Here is a news flash…I don’t want to be shocked; and, I don’t think that most of America or, any other nation for that matter wants to be shocked either at how such a situation could happen.

I listened to the White House’s national security advisor, General James Jones say that the authorities know what happened, what didn’t happen & what steps to take to prevent it from happening in the future, so that there is not another incident.  He said that it isn’t like they have to re-invent the wheel…the failure to respond to the red flags that should never have allowed Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the suspect to fly are preventible.

Ok, so General James Jones is right…people will be shocked at all of the failed steps that are there to protect us.  Was this all human failings…or failure of judgement calls…or was there out and out neglect of duty?  Was there no electronic or digital barriers that could have thrown up a red flag to warn that this person was a risk?  The report will be an eye opener to more than just those travelors at risk…it will open the eyes of anyone who is on the ground as well…these planes fly over vulnerable targets.  The information in this report will also be available to those (terrorists) who desire to target Americans or any other country with their plans to destroy and attack.

I don’t want to be shocked…I want to be safe, I want travelors to be safe, I want to know that even if noone I know or care about is flying that those planes and their passengers are safe and will not endanger anyone else while in flight.  Failure to protect is unacceptable;  so, while they dont think they need to re-invent the wheel…maybe they should consider trying to because, if we are all informed by this report…dont think that the enemy is not also going to learn a few things from it!

One Response to “National Security-I Don’t Want To Be Shocked”

  1. Connie Baum says:

Is it unrealistic to expect EVERYBODY to take responsibility for their job? Mo matter whether you are an airline employee, work for the government, or just want to take a plane trip-if everyone just did what they SHOULD do, the whole world would be just fine.

Whatever happened to responsibility and accountability and plain old ordinary respect for others? Oh. I remember now. It went the way of common sense.

You make very good points, Rainy. BE SAFE.

    Hugs
    Mother Connie
