I dont know about you…but, even though I understand that the goal of sales people or business promoters is to get your attention and get you to buy something…I really resent the more hyped up versions of such tactics. I dont think that I am unusual in that feeling. It smacks of being manipulated. Now those obvious hooks and lead ins are one thing…but, the ones that mislead the customer are majorly annoying.
I find that for me, the ones that are written are a bit easier for me to read between the lines. The audio sound bites are a bit harder. I think that is because they are not only vague; but, they are edited to lead you to one conclusion when in fact the audio sound bite might just be edited to offer up a partial sentence…taken completely out of context of an uncompleted spoken thought. This is frustrating.
Maybe I am just disagreeable or maybe I am a rebel…but, if you are counting on a scandalous sound bite to lead me in one direction only to switch directions on me by drawing me in with “the rest of the story” and expect me to buy something from you (or convince me to believe something you say)…it isn’t going to happen. It will have the exact opposite result. I think honesty and direct information is a better way to conduct business. Customers are not stupid and if you want them to remain a loyal customer… then you should treat them with respect. If you are marketing anything, a product, idea, program or interview, you should communicate in a way that doesn’t insult the intelligence of your targeted market. What do you think about this subject?
