        Let’s not forget all of the entertainment shows that find it necessary to dish on their speculation of who will wear what designer, and what jewelry will be on loan to this celebrity or that, for such and such amount of money.  We will have to hear how much the jewelry is worth in case it should get lost or stolen.  We will then be subjected to all of the information on the  ”freebie gift bags” that the celebrities will get and how much “swag” is in them.  They all need more material stuff like I need a personal private jet to fly me around the corner to buy a candy bar…get real!

         Oh I know, they are all putting out a slimmed down version of ”spin” on this year’s Oscar buzz; they don’t want there to be any Oscar backlash from the little people.   You know, the real people who can’t pay their mortgages, heat their homes, fill their vehicles with expensive fuels, buy enough groceries to feed their families, get medical insurance to help their family members …you know; those people?  The ones who dont like having their noses rubbed in the overly indulged sense of entitlement to be handed the best of the best in life.  The very people who are either laid off from their jobs, or are about to get laid off from their jobs…or the ones who have graduated from school/college who can’t find a job in the first place…those people who don’t know how they are going to survive the financial crisis facing this country; or if they will even have a home to come home to! 

          Do they think that we all will be so very grateful to be able to forget our financial struggles, for a few hours, that we will be happy to see all of those celebs wearing their designer clothes and wearing borrowed jewelry, riding in stretch limos (the same celebs that tell us to cut back and live green)—giving red carpet interviews…and posing for photographers? 

        I say, let the Oscars be simply about the accomplishments of the actors and film industry professionals…recognize them without all of the glitz and glamour; that really has nothing to do with their performances on the awards show.    It is shallow and only reinforces the ridiculous excesses that this country has allowed to get out of control…those same excesses that allowed this country to get into the financial mess that it is currently facing.  Let’s see some financial responsibility role modeled in the world of celebrity, sports figures and political leaders; if we are expecting common folks to get their financial lives in order…let’s expect it from those who are in the public spotlight as well!
